Hamburg nightlife

A week ago i had a business meeting in Aachen near Cologne in good ol’ germany and afterwards headed over to Hamburg my first time. I have to say – i really enjoyed this city. I really got used to the seaman spirit. On friday evening we have been out on the named Kiez which is in the district of St. Pauli which is just awesome – never seen such a party mile anywhere else. After a long long night we finally had breakfast at the Fischmarkt which was disgusting – ever had too much alcohol and then went on a fishmarket? Man. Don’t do that! However there are also some photos on flickr now.

Arrived in Baltimore

After an all-night party regarding the world telecom day 2007 invited by tins (former co-worker of mine). I dropped by the vienna airport at about 6am yesterday.

After the usual check-in procedure we headed over to our flight to Frankfurt. Arrived in Frankfurt at about 9am we had to do the re-routing of Aarons ticket via Boston. This took quite long and Aaron almost missed the flight to Philadelphia. But he finally catched it and we had a 1 hour delayed start in Frankfurt. Therefor we missed our connection in Philadelphia but a very nice woman of US airways rebooked us for the next flight which was about 2 hours later. Finally we arrived at about 8:30pm in Baltimore and surprisingly our luggage also made it. We headed over to Marriot and had a shower. Befor going to bed we grabbed our first US burger (it’s tradition already ) and felt asleep.

Milano party trip

Last weekend had a bridging day for Austria. So Roland, Bijan, Gerhard and myself went for a short trip to Milano/Italy. Our main purpose (at least mine) was to make some party down there. I was also thinking about some shopping and sightseeing.

So on friday about 4pm we started our trip to Bratislava from where our Ryanair flight would departure. Trip started with a nice traffic jam in Vienna – but we came through quite well and headed down highway 4 direction Bratislava. Somewhere behind Schwechat the signs for Bratislava dissapeared – but no problem, we had our card from Google Maps with us. At least we thought. Somewhere near Bruck/Leitha we were wondering why there are really no signs to Bratislava anymore – Google Maps told us we should head over to highway 6 somewhere behind Bruck/Leitha. Well, looking on the card we came to the curve where the exit should be. In fact there was one big building site saying that here will be a highway 6 sometime. Dude, i was pissed. We already lost a lot of time through the traffic jam now this. So i popped up my laptop figuring out it would take us 22 minutes from here to Bratislava airport (Thanks map24.com!). Our checkin-desk would close in about 25 minutes. Tough! However we really got there and also could check-in (but without any luggage except our hand one). So i had to throw away a lot of cosmetics.

But nevertheless our flight started about 45 minutes late and so we arrived in Milano at about 8pm and headed over to our hotel which was really nice and cheap. It was about 15 minutes by feet from the Milano cathedral.

The next days were filled with a lot of walking, sightseeing, partying and enjoying this lovely city. Milano is definitely worth a trip. I uploaded some photos on my flickr account.

First california impressions

We started our first day by getting a coffee at our near by deli store. Our luggage was already brought to the reception in the night and so we had one thing less to worry about. After we grabbed our morning starter we headed over in the direction we thought the university campus should be. After a short walk we came to the first buildings of UCSD campus and the first impression was amazing – compared to austrian universities that campus looked just beautiful. We also found the library which looked kind of like a borg cube from star trek.

After we’ve reached the other side of the campus we thought about heading to the beach. We crossed down a street to some kind of gliderpoint. The first thing which came in my mind when i saw it was the old pc game named summer games. The view from up the cliff was great and sun was giving us about 25 degree celsius. There was a small path leading down to the beach which we surely followed to find out that this is a nudist beach. So we headed down the beach for a while and found out that the water will still take some time to get appropriate temperature. At least felt temperature on right teeth was cold.

When coming back from the beach somewhere at La Jolla farms we wanted to head right over to downtown La Jolla. We’ve not fully lost our orientation but we didn’t exactly know how far it would be. So we just started walking … and walking … and walking … after about 2 hours we were pissed of the long distance. So we considered taking a taxi, but wait – where is our sidewalk? Hmm strange we thought – till we found out we’re on some kind of freeway. Dude! Good for us, there was a traffic jam on it and an empty taxi stuck in it. So we just jumped on it to find out that both was illegal – walking on a street without sidewalk and jumping on a taxi while it’s not inside a parking lot. He dropped us at downtown La Jolla at a restaurant which he considered to have good meals. So we headed there and took our first meal in the states. Meal was not that good but also not too bad i guess. Nearby the restaurant there were some kind of cliffs inside a cove. On this cliffs there were hundrets of pelicans and they all used it as a toilet. Therefor the rocks had a little white color touch and well the smell was disgusting. I choose to take a little break and lie down in a nearby park while Teemu choose to head down the cove a bit.

As Teemu had no shorts with him (weather report?) we had to look for some clothing stores and so we went up to Prospect which is the main street in downtown La Jolla. There we grabbed sunglasses (well, ok – i grabbed two of them) and found some khakis and sneakers for Teemu.

Shopping makes thirsty and so we headed for an irish pub named Bull and Bear straight on Prospect which offered us a fine range of cold beer.

In the evening we went to Pacific Beach which is a part of San Diego like La Jolla as the girl in the sunglass shop gave us the tip. I personally didn’t like that college party town that much. So we finished our first night at about 1am and headed back to our hotel.
